Compassion is like a fire, not burning fiercely but warm and lasting.
Compassion is like a good seed placed in the ground, growing day by day into empathy and love. Nowadays we often talk about compassion, but compassion is mostly for people to people, we rarely think about compassion for other species, or compassion is nurtured and practiced in thoughts and small daily actions. Compassion from each person's perspective seems to be different.
Many people think that compassion is limited to giving things to the poor, building roads, temples, donating money to certain charities, but many times we have heard that criminals in court are people who have contributed a lot of money to charity, but then why do they end up in prison? So is that money clean or not?
Is it correct to think of compassion simply in terms of money? We give away items and cash to many places to become sponsors and famous benefactors, but when we sit down at a table, we want to eat fresh food from many species, we plan to win or lose other stories. So does that kindness really come from a heart that loves all living beings deeply or just comes from superficial acts?
It must be admitted that all actions of helping people in difficulty and hardship, contributing to social welfare projects are valuable, but they will truly produce good results when those actions come from a heart of compassion open to all living beings, with good money, with a pure heart.
Buddhist compassion does not discriminate against anyone.
Because any living being from birth has life within it, from the stem of a tree or blade of grass to the living beings that live in eggs or fetuses.
According to the essence of Buddhism, the four types here are those born from eggs (oviparous, 卵生, Sanskrit: aṇdàja-yoni; such as chickens, ducks, birds, fish...), those born from fetuses (thai sanh, jarāyujā-yoni, Sanskrit: jarāyujā-yoni; like people, buffalo, goats...). Species born from natural transformation (transformation, 化生, Sanskrit: upapādukā-yoni; such as devas, hell beings, hungry ghosts, intermediate beings (intermediate state)…), and species born from harmonious conditions, or born as a result of the combination of hot and cold, or basically including beings that cannot be born from the other three species (low-born, 濕生, Sanskrit: saṃsvedajā-yoni; such as asexual reproduction…).
However, many times, people still mistakenly think that compassion is only for people to people, the article mentions a content that is “compassion between people for animals” that in recent times, we have seen many arguments and conflicts between people who protect animals and people who think that animals are food, are inanimate, or when someone condemns the slaughter and torture of animals. Dogs and cats…
At that time, they asked the question “if you don’t eat dogs and cats, then do you eat chickens and ducks…or not?” Then they labeled those who protect dogs and cats, encourage vegetarianism as “online Buddha”, “compassion on the keyboard” because normally people think that just not killing people, being good to humans is enough, and animals are born to be food for humans, regardless of species, but if we answer this question, we understand that “no animal is born to be food, to be a tool to serve another species”.
Humans also do not have the privilege to kill any species because every animal is a life, has life, has pain, knows fear. Every animal has children, is a parent, whether it is an insect, reptile, fish, bird or dog, cat, chicken, duck… they also know how to love their children, their children also need parents to care for and protect. Any animal has its own body structure to create life, knows how to communicate with its own kind, has the ability to survive and the desire to live.
We eat a certain creature in a normal, comfortable mood, we think that because animals are born to be food for humans, but in fact, that is just thinking when we are carrying a stronger power than the animal.
From the perspective of power, we can suppress the animal, can control it in many ways to turn it into food, become entertainment, become a means of labor for humans when it is weaker, its brain is less developed and it has no way to fight back and protest.
We force the buffalo to plow, the horse to pull the cart, the cow and pig to be food..., that is imposed by humans because we are smarter, we have the power, the means and the force to force it to endure and accept.
Humans are a high-level animal, so they rely on their intelligence and strength to eat other species to maintain their own lives. But that does not mean that we can put any animal in our mouths as food, because humans are different from lower animals in that we have hearts that can vibrate, brains that can think, humanity, and benevolence, which are factors for humans to develop, progress, and become civilized.
So humans must know how to apply that humanity and compassion to love the lives of living beings, to feel pain for the pain of living beings, to feel sadness for the sadness of living beings, to suffer for the suffering of living beings without distinguishing which species or creature it is.
If humans can carelessly turn all species into food just to serve their taste buds, their desire to eat delicious and strange foods, then humans have overcome the necessary need to "eat to live" and touched greed.
When we think that animal A can be eaten, then we can also eat animal B, animal C, then we have lost compassion. The goodness that nature bestows on humans has invisibly turned humans into omnivores and no longer humane and humane people.
People say that if slaughterhouses were made of glass, and everyone could see the images of blood, the screams of pain, the struggles in fear, helplessness, and the ultimate despair of animals, could see the calves slipping and falling because of fear, and the tears of thousands of living beings before the butcher's hands, people would no longer want to eat meat.
So have we ever put ourselves in that situation, when we become a weaker creature and our loved ones, our bodies become food for a species stronger than us, would we be afraid and in pain?
Every species is inherently a living being, needs to live and wants to live, we are born as humans and are many times happier than animals, to have a human body, we have also gone through many lives, many reincarnations practicing, sowing good deeds, doing good deeds.
So why in this life, when we have a human body with so much thinking, intelligence, understanding, and language, we cannot give weaker animals love and compassion to continue sowing good seeds, but we waste a human life to massacre, kill, and abuse small animals, which are more deficient than us?
We often think that animals are inanimate, or have no understanding, so we see them as something that can be whipped, mistreated, and tortured, that we can raise them today but use them as a fun food tomorrow, regardless of how much they love us or trust us.
However, if we pay attention, we will see that when animals sleep, they still dream, they also have idealistic reactions in their dreams, maybe in their dreams they see something, maybe they even see us in them, meaning that the animal's brain also has points similar to humans, knowing how to perceive, knowing how to reflect, knowing how to recreate a story, an image through dreams, so animals are not inanimate, emotionless as we think.
Every living thing has life, whether it is a tree or a blade of grass, because it has life, from the sprout, the bud, it absorbs the soil, the earth's vitality to grow, it also know pain but because we are not trees or grass, we do not know what that pain is like, we do not feel it so we think it does not exist.
However, any species born in this world must live so it is necessary to have a nutritious diet, but if we are human, we should also apply compassion, compassion, and progressive humanistic thinking to maintain our own life without causing too much harm or pain to other entities.
Therefore, if we cannot be vegetarian, we should not turn all animal lives into our food, because everything that passes through our throats is the same, the deliciousness is only for a few seconds but the suffering, the pain, the karma that we carry, we create for living beings is countless.
If humans love and help other humans, it is considered obvious because love for fellow humans is love that all species have, for humans it is also the spirit of humanity, conscience and morality, in addition to love coming from the heart, Humans also have a legal corridor to protect their rights and lives.
If anyone violates and harms the life, spirit, and physical health of others, they will be dealt with according to the law, but animals are not protected by law except for animals in the Red Book, so the lives of animals depend only on the compassion and humanitarian spirit of humans for them.
When a person knows how to develop a heart of love, care, and protection for animals, he is also practicing a great compassion for living beings because it is not bound by laws or regulations, but it comes from compassion, from infinite love for all species, a thing that most clearly demonstrates the outstanding characteristics of humans.
We have also seen images of animals that not only know how to love their own kind, know how to protect their children, but sometimes they also take care of and help other species, so we are humans, we love and help humans is necessary, but besides that, if we Lacking compassion for the lives of other species, we ignore and are indifferent to their pain, we have unintentionally lost our own goodness, that of a human being.
Therefore, when we are fortunate to have a human body, let us use this open heart, this deep love to love other animals, when raising any animal, let us also see it as a friend, a family member because whoever it is, any living being, once existing in our life, in our family, is also a predestined relationship from a previous life.
According to the Buddhist theory of reincarnation, it could be a relative, a creature that we had a predestined relationship with in the past, now comes back to be our friend, even if it is only in a small form and body.
Loving living beings with the noble love of humans, of the Buddhist spirit to limit the harm caused to all species is also sowing the seeds of good fortune for ourselves, do not think that just Not causing evil to humans is enough, but even with the lives of animals, a tree or a blade of grass, they also have the properties of life. Therefore, loving and cherishing the lives of all species is practicing a great compassion, it not only brings joy and peace to all species but also helps oneself create good deeds. When we carry good things in our hearts, wherever we go, we will bring positive energy, wherever we are, there will be good feng shui.
Don't be stingy when we cut out a dish that suits our taste, because it's delicious, because it nourishes this, strengthens that, if that means taking away the life of a species, because nothing nourishes and strengthens human health forever but contains within it the pain, fear, agony and despair of another species.
We haven't talked about the scientific perspective yet, but speaking about spirituality, when we are harboring in our bodies fear, insecurity, and blood debt from another species, will we be at peace, let alone nourish or strengthen our health.
Today we have a human form but we don't know after we die, we will reincarnate into another species' body, today we are rich, healthy, eating and sitting in front of many people but no one knows after we leave this body Then, when we reincarnate, will we still be so blessed?
So when in this life we are still lucky to be human, to have enough thoughts, enough thinking, enough conditions to do good things, then don't waste it, give it up, forget it, be indifferent, so that when we get sick or die, we will regret why we didn't do that good thing, why we missed so many opportunities to treat others well, why we didn't accumulate virtue when we still had the chance to be human, why we caused so much evil to living beings?
Every life that is born is precious, every fetus, even an insect, contains pain to create life, so we hope that we always have love for the weak animals around us.
Humans have thinking, have reason, so they must know how to consider, know how to eliminate, cannot think that humans are supreme and carelessly kill other species because no animal has a complete intelligence level like humans, so instead of considering animals as ignorant species for humans to kill and trample, let's love them because they are more defective than us.
Let's love animals with love, compassion and responsibility, if we cannot convert all living beings, cannot give up the need to eat meat for some reasons, then don't kill them all to satisfy our eating needs, don't mock or question anyone with words comparing this species or that species, but let's experience and thank them because they have advised us on good things, they have helps us reduce the bad karma from blood debts with sentient beings, in this life that we are still indifferent and unaware of.
Every individual that exists in this universe is a piece in the overall picture with its own operating methods, so we cannot say that only humans are in control, only humans have the right to change or destroy a species because we cannot exist in harmony if a certain entity is lost.
The more compassionate a person is, the richer and stronger their soul will be, because we know how to share, sympathize, see the losses and pain of others, of other species to have ways to soothe and resolve, transform that suffering into love and peace.
Compassion is one of the factors that helps people inspire and energize the world around them.
A person without compassion is like an entity that only exists without a soul. According to Osho, “Compassion is a higher form of biology and physiology. A compassionate person will no longer be a slave to himself but will become his own master. At that time, we do everything consciously, decide what we want to do and are not pushed, dominated or dragged by unconscious energy sources, which means we are completely free.”
I hope that each of us, while still alive, will know how to nurture and spread our compassion to everyone, every species, so that no living being feels insecure or suffers when having to approach us, so that we can be at ease and happy in this life without being tormented or tormented by unwholesome deeds.
The human body is given by nature a heart that knows how to vibrate with love, a mind that knows how to think right and wrong, to bring our love and compassion to people and weak species, not to be afraid or bow down to brutal things. Do not compare and hesitate, Don't hesitate to spread compassion in your present life because compassion is also a way to help each of us get closer to the door of good roots and peace.
