I have heard that on one occasion, when the Blessed One was newly Awakened — staying at Uruvela by the banks of the Nerañjara River in the shade of the Muccalinda tree — he sat for seven days in one session, sensitive to the bliss of release. Now at that time a great, out-of-season storm-cloud rose up, with seven days of rainy weather, cold winds, and intense darkness. Then Muccalinda the naga king, leaving his realm and encircling the Blessed One's body seven times with his coils, stood with his great hood spread over the Blessed One, thinking: "Don't let the Blessed One be disturbed by cold. Don't let the Blessed One be disturbed by heat. Don't let the Blessed One be disturbed by the touch of flies, mosquitoes, wind, sun, and creeping things." Then at the end of the seven days the Blessed One emerged from that concentration. Muccalinda the naga king, realizing that the sky had cleared and the storm clouds had left, and unraveled his coils from the body of the Blessed One, changed his appearance and, assuming the form of a youth, stood in front of the Blessed One with hands before his heart in homage.

Như vầy t�i nghe: Một thời Thế T�n ở Uruvela, tr�n bờ s�ng Neranjar�, dưới gốc c�y Mucalinda, khi Ng�i mới chứng Ch�nh �ẳng Gi�c. L�c bấy giờ Thế T�n, trong bảy ng�y ngồi một thế ngồi kiết-gi�, thọ hưởng lạc giải tho�t. L�c bấy giờ, một cơn gi�ng tố lớn tr�i m�a khởi l�n v� trong bảy ng�y, trời mưa gi� lạnh, bầu trời u �m. Rồi thần rắn Mucalinda ra khỏi chỗ ở của m�nh, với th�n cuốn v�ng quanh bảy v�ng th�n của Thế T�n, v� đứng thẳng, vươn cao c�c mang lớn tr�n đầu (Thế T�n) với � nghĩ: "Mong Thế T�n khỏi lạnh! Mong Thế T�n khỏi n�ng! Mong Thế T�n khỏi x�c chạm với ruồi, muỗi, gi�, sức n�ng, c�c lo�i b� s�t ". Rồi Thế T�n sau bảy ng�y ấy, ra khỏi định ấy. Rồi Mucalinda, vua c�c lo�i rắn, sau khi biết trời đ� s�ng tỏ, m�y đ� được tho�t đi, cởi mở th�n m�nh khỏi th�n Thế T�n, biến dạng th�n sắc của m�nh, h�a hiện th�n sắc một thanh ni�n đứng trước mặt Thế T�n, chắp tay đảnh lễ Thế T�n.

Then, on realizing the significance of that, the Blessed One on that occasion exclaimed:

Rồi Thế T�n, sau khi hiểu biết � nghĩa n�y, ngay trong l�c ấy, n�i l�n lời cảm hứng n�y:

Blissful is solitude for one who's content,
	who has heard the Dhamma,
	who sees.
Blissful is non-affliction with regard for the world,
	restraint for living beings.
Blissful is dispassion with regard for the world,
	the overcoming of sensuality.
But the subduing of the conceit "I am" — 
That is truly
	the ultimate bliss.

Viễn ly l� an lạc,
Với người biết tri t�c,
Với người c� nghe ph�p,
Với người c� ch�nh kiến
Kh�ng s�n l� an lạc,
Những ai ở tr�n đời,
�ối hữu t�nh ch�ng sanh
Biết tự chế, ngăn ngừa.
Ly tham l� an lạc,
Vượt c�c dục ở đời,
Ai nhiếp phục ng� mạn,
��y an lạc tối thượng.
